Fractional CTO / vCIO

Technology leadership, without the executive salary.

A senior technologist who sits with your leadership team, turns business goals into a technology roadmap, and makes sure every dollar spent on IT earns its place.

Who it’s for

For leadership teams making technology decisions without a technology executive.

You don’t need a full-time CTO. You do need someone accountable for the technology plan.

  • IT spend that feels large, but nobody can explain what it buys.
  • Growth, a new office or an acquisition on the horizon.
  • A board or owners asking about cyber risk and resilience.
  • Vendor sprawl: too many tools, contracts and renewals.
  • Questions about AI, automation and modernization with no one to evaluate them.

What’s included

Strategy that turns into a plan, then into results.

Technology roadmap

A rolling 12- to 36-month plan tied to business goals, risk and budget.

IT budget

A 12-month operating and capital forecast, including device refresh cycles and renewals. No surprises at year end.

Quarterly business reviews

A scorecard, risks, progress and priorities, presented to leadership in plain English.

Vendor & license strategy

We rationalize tools, negotiate renewals and cut unused licenses.

Risk reporting

A board-ready view of cyber risk, security posture and resilience.

Projects & change

Office moves, mergers and acquisitions, ERP and line-of-business selection, cloud migration, planned and governed end to end.

Responsible AI

Practical guidance on Microsoft Copilot and other AI tools: data governance, permissions and acceptable-use policy first. More on AI, done responsibly.

IT policy & governance

Standards for devices, access, data retention and change management.

How it works

A rhythm your leadership team can rely on.

  1. Month 1

    Listen

Interviews with leadership and department heads about goals, frustrations and constraints.

  2. Month 2

    Plan

Roadmap, budget and risk register, presented for approval.

  3. Quarterly

    Review

A QBR with a scorecard, progress against the roadmap and re-prioritization.

  4. Annually

    Reset

The annual planning cycle, aligned with your fiscal year.

What you can expect

What changes at the leadership table.

  • IT becomes a line item leadership understands and approves with confidence.
  • Technology decisions are made on purpose, not in a crisis.
  • Fewer vendors, lower waste, and clearer accountability.
  • A named advisor who knows your business and attends the meetings that matter.
  • Included with every fully managed IT plan, or available on its own.

Questions

What leaders ask us.

What’s the difference between a vCIO and a fractional CTO?

In practice, very little at this size. Both describe a part-time technology executive. We use "fractional CTO" when the work leans toward product and technology direction, and "vCIO" when it leans toward operations, budget and risk. You get the same senior person either way.

Is strategy included in managed IT?

Yes. Every fully managed plan includes quarterly business reviews and roadmap planning. Organizations that don’t need managed IT can engage fractional CTO services on their own.

Can you help evaluate an acquisition?

Yes. We run technology due diligence: security posture, technical debt, licensing, integration cost and risk. After close, we plan and deliver the integration.

What does a fractional CTO cost?

It’s included in every fully managed plan. On its own, it’s a flat monthly retainer based on how much leadership time you need, typically a set number of hours per month plus quarterly reviews. See how pricing works.
